Look elsewhere.: Lighting and Ceiling Fans

I bought these for an old computer that didn't have RGB connectors. They worked fine for a while. It was nice to be able to use SATA to power them and a wireless remote to change colors. I dropped the SATA adapter and plugged them directly into the motherboard connectors when upgrading the system. Problems: The remote only worked for a while. After all, he only wanted to work occasionally. After moving them around a bit on my new system, one of the tapes stopped working properly. First, green stopped working at all. In the end, green is mixed with other colors. I think the connections need to be re-soldered, but I'm not sure I even want to fix it myself. I would have to remove the heat shrink tubing covering the solder, fix the wiring, and find new heat shrink tubing to cover it again. For that price I'll just buy something else. When it worked it was great. The magnets are really strong (not sure if everyone else says they are weak). I'm moving on to something more diffuse. The LEDs are too far apart so you really want to hide them or use them as backlights if you buy this kit. Visual dots can be very distracting.

Pros
  • Lighting and Ceiling Fans
Cons
  • poorly thought out
