This small tank is a good quarantine tank for new and sick males. I kept my first Betta in one of these for a few weeks before moving her to a larger tank. This should never be a permanent home for your Pisces friend as it will be too small for anything in the long run. This is good for treating and monitoring your pet's health, but not for wealth. If you want your bettas to live and thrive for a long time, a larger tank is recommended. I keep all my bettas in this tank to make sure they don't get sick and then when they are quarantined for two weeks I take them to my permanent home. I normally quarantine my fish for 4 weeks before placing them in the main tank, but as my bettas don't usually have roommates a shorter quarantine period is perfectly acceptable. I have a small heater in the tank that allows me to regulate the temperature if needed, but it doesn't usually turn on since I live in the subtropics and the water temperature stays at the appropriate level. I don't use a filter in this particular tank like I do in all my other tanks because it's so shallow. Instead, I do very frequent water changes, once a day or two. At the bottom of the aquarium, I put a thin layer of gravel that encourages the growth of beneficial bacteria that keep the water cycle going. The gravel is easy to replace when I need to treat my fish or quarantine sick fish.
