Exactly what we needed!

Like others here, we have observed water leaking from the bottom right side of our LG Kenmore Elite Washing Machine. We couldn't pinpoint exactly where it came from, but we ended up getting an FE error, indicating the washing machine encountered a filling error. If these valves fail, they can open or close, so be very careful not to open the valve that filled the drum until the washing machine realized what happened and gave an error code. In this case, what happened to us, water flies everywhere when you open the door, and that's a LOT of water. Use the drain hose on the bottom left of the front panel to drain the washing machine so this is not a problem. In our case, we emptied our nearly 11 1-gallon buckets before they were empty. I then turned off the water, disconnected the inlet hoses and drained them into a bucket before removing the four screws on the back of the top panel. The panel is then immediately removed, providing easy access to the intake valves. While that cold inlet valve was leaking, it and the hot water inlet valve were getting rusty, so we replaced both at the same time. Before I started I used a marker to mark each hose and valve connection and then took a photo (attached). I find it helpful to make sure everything is connected properly after replacing. I then placed a container on the barrel of water that could leak from the hoses and began removing the hoses, squeezing the clamps with pliers and placing the hose in the bowl. After everything was removed, I loosened two screws on each valve and they detached from the body. I wrapped the new valves in some type of pipe sealant and then slipped them through the hole in the cabinet and secured them with two screws. Now that the new valves were in, I reconnected the black hoses to each of the intake valves, then checked the numbers just to be sure. Next comes the inflation hoses, but it's important to note that it's easy to damage the valve by over-tightening, so hand-tighten and then use pliers to twist it a further 2/ Tighten 3 turns or so. Once that was done, I turned the water back on for each and started a new cycle, leaving the top bar open for the first load to ensure there were no leaks. All in all a very easy and affordable repair, but less than four years after installation I have a feeling the washing machine started having problems too soon.
