Active ankle brace with maximum protection - be sure to try it out in sports

Tried all common ankle braces. No one is perfect and it might be worth having several due to the different characteristics. This ankle brace (Eclipse 2) is by far the best ankle protection. There is no other brace that is as reliable for ankle sprains. The Zamst comes close, but not as well, and the ASO bandage certainly adds a lot of stretch protection, noticeably less protection, especially after a long run when it loosens up a bit. The main issue with this is comfort, as the rigid side braces around the foot (not around the ankle) can cut into your foot if your foot is slightly wider. I would like to point out that you need to CHECK this in the sport you practice - for me the positions on the sides in my legs are a bit irritating when I'm standing or walking but the moment I start running or shortening, enough weight comes in. from my heel, this is perfectly normal. I've run trails in this thing for 2 hours with no pain, no blisters, but running in it for 5 minutes worries me about chafing - so you'll definitely have to get into your sport to see how it performs. Hard sticks really make a difference when playing or working for longer periods like 1+ hrs. ASO and other braces with straps tend to loosen up a bit over time, reducing protection somewhat, while this one ends up protecting just as well as it did at the beginning. These braces are slightly better than even Zamst for protection. The Zamst doesn't have the chafing issue that this one does, but adding pegs/hinges definitely gives you the best possible protection, barring massive burglary boots. Portability is surprisingly good - no cutting issues and no "hinge" and weight issues. I actually think this brace is more flexible than ASO/Soft braces as you don't have to rely on strap tension for protection so the straps are not as tight/restricting as Soft braces. I had little to no mobility issues, which surprised me given the full stance setup, and I actually prefer the feeling of more stability that the stances provide. It's not difficult to put on either. It's not exactly easy, but I would say it's easier than most other braces. Aside from the possible fit/chafing issue with foot braces (not ankles), I would give this 5 stars if it works for you. Again, remember to try this during exercise - walking with it can confuse the issue as walking flattens your foot and can lead to more chafing, as was the case for me.
