Review on YONGNUO YN2 0X III Teleconverter Extender by Brad Laverentz

After reading all the negative reviews on here I don't think I've ever been willing to return a product without even receiving it. I have a Canon R6 mirrorless camera and a Sigma 100-400 "Contemporary" zoom lens. I decided it was worth trying the Yongnuo as it costs less than a third of the price of the Canon 2.0x III. I have a number of their flashes and triggers and have been consistently happy with their quality and price. Even the Yongnuo datasheet reproduced here on Revain suggests that the YN2.0X III will not autofocus correctly with a 100-400mm zoom lens. I'm assuming it's a Canon lens, but I suspect any incompatibility is due to differences in the SLR's autofocus setting. On my R6 mirrorless camera, the autofocus is instantaneous and very sharp. Several people also wrote about improper exposure calibration. My bird shoot yesterday was on an overcast day - far from ideal for autofocus bird photography - and even with a 2x stop on the extender I was able to get the exposure predictable. The extender also transmitted precise image stabilization data. I have no doubt that people have detailed their experiences with SLR cameras. All I can say is that my experience with the R6 was a very pleasant surprise. In terms of build quality, it is a perfect match for both the lens and the camera. Nothing rattles or wobbles, the release lever works perfectly. It's only a day old but looks just as well built as my Canon 1.4x. If there is any reason to regret this purchase, I have not found it. If you have an advanced mirrorless camera, I recommend this extender.
