OVERVIEW OF MOTORCYCLE TANK REPAIR WITH A PULLER

GUYSCyl MOTORCYCLE TANKS are solid metal. cars are soft. However, I was fine. The bike bump guy is seven hours away and I decided to give it a try. Just an appraisal of the bike at the time of purchase. It was positive. So I made the purchase because 1) this kit came with a glue gun 2) it came with a pull hammer as opposed to this bridge suction device. I read a review of a similar product on this bridge suction cup from another cyclist who said he ended up with even more dents. It made sense. It is enough to press on the motorcycle's tank and you will get a dent. This three-legged thing looked like it would dent. My results with a hammer: Removed about 90-95% of the dents in the (hard) tank head, about four inches above the gas cap, the area said to be the hardest to treat. I managed to start the tank and direct the puller just behind the steering wheel. You will need patience. Took me about an hour and a half and two cups of coffee. Treat it as a job and you're likely to fail. Someone can help, for example, to sit on a stable bike. Don't lose your bike! I have a main stand, that helped. Spent about 12 tabs. Some looked like something had happened, many looked like nothing had happened. Most likely every time something happened. Those who were holding on to the tank I hit 10 to 20 times before the fear set in. None of my groins are broken. As addictive as this material may seem, it is not. The smaller tabs popped out quicker, if not instantly on the first press, simply because there's less surface-to-surface grip. Medium and large tabs are preferred. Look at the dent and use your head until the dent clears up. The large tabs got stuck and had to be removed with rubbing alcohol just to check progress. You don't want to go crazy about your tank. You want it even, you don't want a reverse dent/bump. Tip 1: I used this simple masking tape around the work area. Just let the metal touch the tank and you will have a mark. Careful! Tip 2: Be aware that you are likely to spray alcohol on your tank, which will ruin the effect of the glue on the next pull tab. Prepare a damp rag, dab it with some Dawn Cleaner and dry it well before trying again. The glue sticks to the tank and/or the tongue. Also, understand that you are using alcohol on tabs. Must be rinsed out before next use. While removing the glue from one tab, glue the other and dry on your tank to move things around. Visual bottom line: Two people told me they could still see the dent and pointed out a tiny dent that was already there that I didn't work on. So my little unnoticeable dent looked bigger now because my big 2-3 inch dent I was working on was almost gone. I'll try again this week to see if I can make it go away completely. However, there is one big positive difference and now I can sleep at night. Hope you get the same results. UPDATE: Came back to this, happened this moment of dread and broke a lug. Again it's plastic. If you think you're about to have a heart attack, take it easy. Think how easy it was to dent your tank. We're just going in the opposite direction. My dent is now just a small dimple.
