Does what I need

It does what I need, but. Disclaimer: The more I researched DP MST hubs, the more I realized that this is for extended displays. It relies on Windows to function properly. As such, there are some glitches to be aware of, but I won't blame the product for them as I believe every product will have similar issues. First, when switching some modes (especially in games) with connected monitors, you may experience instant blank screens (I consider this "normal"). Second, it may freeze when loading into Windows, reboot, and start normally on the second try (this can be avoided). I found this to be due to old (hidden) monitor "devices" in Device Manager. I was able to prevent this by removing unwanted hidden monitors. It looks like connecting a monitor through different ports/adapters creates a new device. I believe what happens during windows boot when multiple matching devices are found if those devices are part of the MST hub. I bought this specifically to run 2 monitors (DP 1.2) at 2560 x 1440 144Hz from 1 port of my Geforce 3000 series card (DP 1.4). It is not compatible with the FreeSync option on the monitor (i.e. the G-Sync compatible option visible in the graphics card panel was not present when using this unit). This was not a breach of the terms of the contract. but something to note. I don't like using a MiniDP > DP adapter. but I knew what was going on. I personally think it would be better to have a product designed for a standard DP connector. since multiple connections can be a problem for a DP. Speaking of which, I felt like the cable could have been thicker for the 1.4. but again, for these two elements, if everything works, this is not a problem. I've only used it with USB-C connected to a power source. The hub worked as expected for the first few weeks with no hiccups. After that, I noticed that it would sometimes turn off both monitors for a split second (I only notice this a couple of times a week). However, it doesn't seem to happen as often as it used to. I also had a 2 DP + 1 HDMI version of this hub. and no luck with that. It got horribly worse when the monitors were turned off many times a day. If it gets worse I will definitely update this review. However, no other options. I'll give it 4 stars and see what happens next. A maximum of one buggy per week is allowed. but otherwise stable. Let's call it good.

Pros
  • Low-power Mini DisplayPort hub design, powered entirely by the Mini DisplayPort host port bus; Optional USB-C power connector allows for compatibility with low-power devices that don't send enough power over the mDP hub connection
Cons
  • No automatic
