I'm getting my mom and dad the same toaster as a gift. Have been using it for at least a year. The layout is superb. The toasting is uniform. Always picked the color red. Smeg toasters appeared to take a little longer to heat up than those of competing brands. That may be safer, though. however, there are situations when speed is a priority. It's inconvenient, but we learn to live with crumbs since the bottom tray can be removed and crumbs poured out, but that's only half of the crumbs; the other half remain inside at the bottom and you can't pull them out in any manner.
