Soft and quilted as shown. I've washed it a few times and it hasn't faded or started falling apart. A very well made product. Folds up nicely to store in my nursery when changing diapers. The design is also very cute! However, my changing pad did not have the "diamond" side pattern shown in the photos. But I'm not complaining, I bought it because of the fox and the cotton character.
