Review on πŸ“Έ CowboyStudio 20 Inch Portable Foldable Off-Camera Flash Speedlite Softbox with Grid: Enhance Your Speedlite Photography Experience! by Douglas Cochrane

Good light modifier, weak flash mount

A real softbox is a very good light modifier. There is an inner baffle suspended from the walls, equipped with an egg crate grille and a round mask on the front. It's all solid. However, the mount you use to attach the box to a light stand is pretty cheap. It's stamped metal, and the ball head you use to tilt this thing has a ridiculously small handle. Since there is a lot of weight on the pivot, you *really* need to squeeze it to keep it from moving, which is difficult for such a small handle. I'll replace it with something more substantial and interlocking when I get the chance. The back of the box attaches to the bracket by placing a round bracket between the four ends of the box. It's hard to explain, but basically if you think of the box as four triangles, it slides backwards where the four spikes meet at the back end. Surprisingly, it is quite stable, only sags a bit. Not world class, of course, but not bad either. I'll never try to fold this thing again so can't comment but think you can fold it and put it in the included pouch if you like. I've only used it for one shoot so far and have no complaints. The box itself doesn't look cheap.

Pros
  • One (1) hot shoe mounted flash mount, one (1) side latch cold shoe
Cons
  • Can't remember
