Bought as a Christmas gift for my 90+ year old parents who now live in a nursing home. They gave up their house that had a fireplace a few years ago and I hoped that would be a welcome reminder. That means the lantern gives off a very pleasant light in a good color scheme with images of tree trunks and a subtle chimney effect. The lantern's bezel size is quite large, so you can turn off the light and get a cozy look with just enough light so you don't trip. SMALL screwdriver head and good view to loosen to allow batteries to be inserted. To me this is a bad design as many/most light fixtures use a simple latch that doesn't require tools or high quality vision. This is a disadvantage for older people. It's lightweight with a hanging hook at the top if you want. We ran it for several hours on two separate occasions while I was there and it was good. Comes with a two position on/off switch also on the bottom. The second position is for a 'timer', allowing something like a 6 hour day display to be shown at the same time every day, which we didn't see as a value as 6 hours is too long and inflexible . I also wish the power button was accessible without having to lift and flip the device. The switch doesn't contrast in color with the base, so your fingers should be able to find it, which is fine, but it's a "feel" switch, not a "see" switch. Net / net most importantly, they liked it, and the answer is yes".
