Does not match '1'

Got this because I need a whole house filter for a new fountain I'm feeding in a new big house. The pressure tank is 1.25 inches, as is the line to the house. I was willing to downsize the filter to 1" and based on that listing and the label on the box that says it "fits a 1" fitting, I decided it would work. Unfortunately, the actual opening on the filter is smaller than even the 3/4" PVC pipe, which severely restricts flow. You can see the piece of 1" pipe I slipped over the connector. I didn't have a 3/4" piece by hand because I didn't want to go that route, but the wall thickness is much thicker than standard PVC so the hole is more like a 2/3" so you don't even have to 3/4 inch flow. From the 1" pipe I wanted I will lose about 57% of my flow before I get to the filter! Therefore, claiming that it "fits in a 1" fitting is nonsense, and mentioning about 1" (with extra adapter) is just silly because with extra adapters anything can be made to fit any ra the size of plumbing ! I could hook this up to a 1/2" line or a 4" drain pipe if I wanted to, but neither would make much sense. Why on earth their fanciest and most expensive filter option doesn't fit the full 1" flow (if the comparison chart shows other models that fit without all the bells and whistles it's beyond me, but they just have to drop all mention of the 1" and they really shouldn't be claiming 3/4" pipe. It may have a matching 3/4" pipe OD but not a 3/4" ID. I installed it because I didn't have another I needed alternatives on hand to make the connections. The connections weren't as versatile as advertised either. These are Sharkbite copper tube connectors and the plastic fitting on the filter has an OD less than 3/4" to match the copper on the other side. Suggested Installation The approach to existing plumbing is to have a long enough piece of 3/4 inch copper pipe that you cut into and push in the Sharkbite fittings h ina until you copper appears. end, then use a tool to loosen the teeth and slide the connector back onto the ends of the filter. Not a bad concept as you don't have to try and push the pipe to get the fitting in, but you are limited by what you get. If I wanted to connect it directly to the PVC I'm using, I'd have to spend $50 on two copper-PVC style Sharkbite connectors, but I'd lose the ability to move it and clean the filter. Instead I spent $25 on NPT copper tubing and ends and NPT PVC fittings. Of course I already had a torch, flux and solder to melt through the copper and make adapters, but it would be nice to be able to glue directly to the PVC. However, the non-standard diameter of the SB connector meant that a PVC fitting would not fit. Clever feature seems to work, but Alexa implementation sucks. Half the time she says it doesn't support it! See video for an example.

Pros
  • High marks for hold and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other alternatives
