Last week, during a severe thunderstorm with lightning, we suddenly lost internet. We called to find out and found out that there are no power outages in our area and all the neighbors have internet. Spectrum confirmed during a phone call that our modem was down. I explained that I restarted it several times but there was no internet. They informed me that the technician could not come for 2-3 days to check the problem. It was Friday evening. As we have had to restart the modem several times in the past due to internet drops, the next morning I took my old modem to the Spectrum store and exchanged it, thinking the modem had blown due to the lighting. I asked for a better modem. The rep gave me an Arris modem and said it was top quality. Installed new modem, same problem, no internet connection. As I work as an IT professional, I decided to test my cables at home. We just couldn't do without internet at the weekend if the problem was at home. We broadcast our television service, and there was no wifi. I checked the junction box that the wires went through to several rooms in the house when we had cable TV with receivers in the Time Warner days. This splitter had no signal to the modem. Approached the cable outlet at the entrance to the house. There is no internet signal in a house with a MoCa filter. I removed the MoCa filter and reconnected the cable to the modem and I got an internet signal. A bad MoCa filter stopped the internet signal. I understand the benefits of the MoCa filter, so I order a new one. After installing this new MoCa filter this morning, the internet is available again. Hope this helps someone else. Our old MoCa filter was installed by cable company Time Warner over 20 years ago before Spectrum bought them out. This filter stops your internet connection when it burns out or goes bad. By the way, I just canceled the call to Spectrum service as soon as I got the issue resolved.
