Since adding this to my tank I've noticed a decrease in the amount of pesky algae. Some seaweed is good. This helps absorb ammonia and gives fish, snails and shrimp plenty of food. This helps absorb the extra phosphate we all cause from overfeeding and simply makes for a safer aquarium that is easier to manage. From what I've read it lasts about 3 months so I plan on changing it 4 times a year. For a 75 gallon aquarium, a jar should last about a year. I'd rather feed my snails, shrimp and catfish a piece of zucchini or cucumber every week in addition to the greens than have an aquarium where you can't see through the glass. Perfect balance. This is not a magic bullet for killing algae. Your snails, shrimp and fish will help, but vacuum the gravel when you change the water and it will help a lot.
