Very thick and durable sisal fabric. The edge is cotton and not that strong. I used this for a do-it-yourself multi-story cat condo because the store bought ones are made of cardboard, chipcore, MDF and crappy sisal rope and last about a week with my 6 cats because they are demons that will eventually destroy the whole house. . Used 1/2" staples and a construction stapler to secure them to the flat, using lots of staples along the edge of the cotton to prevent deathclaws from being attracted. These greens are just the perfect size to wrap around 3 2x4s nailed together like a scratching post leaving only the splinter on the pole corners exposed. Cats get used to it pretty quickly and stick to their cunning schemes. They soon seem to last a long time and they are cheap to replace.
