First, it's beautiful. It's big enough for 2 small loaves of bread. The cover is soft and pleasant to look at. The basket itself is like thin sheet metal. Not heavy at all, the lid too. I bought it to store my homemade bread. I would NOT recommend doing this. Not only did this not keep my bread fresh, it shaped the bread. The lid is deformed and does not fit the basket completely. I tried putting something on it to close it but it didn't work. If you're just looking for something sweet to hold prepackaged bread then this is fine. But that's not what I bought it for, so I'll be back. First, it's too much money to pay for something that isn't very functional. Second, I expect it to be more durable and have a better lid for the price. I have four children (all boys) and I will worry about them bending the jar or breaking the lid. I'm sending it back to check for something working. Added a photo to show the gap between the lid and the base. In fact, it only touches on the sides in the middle and swings slightly forward. The other photo shows the outline and interior. The edges at the top make it thick and durable, but the case itself is actually very thin and seems to wrinkle easily.
