I have a pair of GVM 80w COB bulbs which I like but they don't put out much light with the diffusers. That's why I decided on this universal device. Promising AC/battery powered fixture delivering variable light temperatures at a theoretical brightness of approximately twice the GVM. What's not to like? First the bad news: color temp. As another reviewer pointed out, although this light has the ability to dial from 2500k to 8500k, if you're looking for a daylight setting at 5600k, look elsewhere. This one gives you 5600k on an 8400 dial setting and it still doesn't play well with other more balanced lights including the GVM 80w that I own. Setting this to 5600K makes the color look more like 3400K - tending towards red. Not a bad color if that's your only light source. But if you're like me, you use different lights in the same scene. And this one just doesn't play well with others on either end of the spectrum. To be honest you can get away with no daylight compensation at the 8400k setting, but then you're near the end of the adjustment on the controller and any other light you have that might be two tone won't adjust to fit in the middle , as they are usually orange rather than red on the tungsten scale. More bad news; If you use this with a V-mount battery, the performance is limited to 80%. I've tried a few different batteries - 98w and 150w, and each time the controller cover shows the power at 80%. Damn. And of course the problem with the length of the cable, because of which you have to hang the bracket on the light bracket. Now for the good news: if you're shooting in black and white, or if that's your only light source (or you really need a red tint in your key light), this works great. It's bright, beautiful and even with a large diffuser. It looks well built, tilts easily with a cool flip lock, and a nice surprise is how quiet the fan is. Come on, shoot, I don't think you'll hear it. GVM is louder. The included stand is actually a pretty decent stand and doesn't flex under the weight of the light, large parabolic octagonal box and battery powered pendant controller. PS, the light lasted a maximum of one hour (80%) with a 150 Wh battery. After all my complaints about the color I ended up leaving it because I think I can work with it in certain scenarios and I like the construction and brightness. . And since I waited 6 months for the lamp, I ordered it from Adorama.
