Review on πŸ” Enhanced Security with Identiv uTrust FIDO2 USB-A NFC Security Key: FIDO2, U2F, PIV, TOTP, HOTP, WebAuth Supported by Andrea Miller

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Good security key, needs tamper evident packaging.

TLDR: Does what it's supposed to do, doesn't come in tamper-proof packaging. On paper the features seem to match well with the Yubikey 5 nfc, but I'm not sure if it integrates with OpenPGP the way Yubikey does (no mention in the docs) and there's no key management app (At least I couldn't find it, if it exists). Pros: I like that the key is thinner than the marketing photos, it's flat and probably 1/8th. ” in overall thickness – or about twice as thick as a USB disk. I've tested the FIDO2 u2f capabilities and it works as expected over both USB and NFC on macOS and iOS in Chrome and Safari, but that's the limit of my testing so far. Bad and unknown: The key comes in a bag with a lock. attached to the information card with a drop of glue. There is no guarantee that this key has not been tampered with between its manufacture and delivery, and this can be disturbing to people who are paranoid about their operating system (and I believe they make up a large segment of the target audience). I haven't found any software that accompanies this dongle, so I'm not sure if you can reset the FIDO2 PIN or manage PIV PINs and certificates the same way you would with another security key I have from another manufacturer. Finally, I don't understand everything that's going on inside, but I'd love to hear from someone trustworthy who does, so it would be nice if they released a security audit of the device or opened it up for review. This is a powerful hardware security key that can be made great with a little extra effort. I look forward to testing more features.

Pros
  • Like everything before
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product
