I recently bought a used graphics card for my main workstation. It has an additional power connection. The card draws 75 watts of power from the expansion card slot, but requires an additional 150 watts from the power supply. That's what the 8-pin connector on the circuit board is for. My computer is 2011 and had two 6 pin connectors instead of one 8 pin connector. (They put out 75 watts each.) To connect my graphics card I had to buy this cable so I can connect two 6-pin connectors to one 8-pin connector. This cable is well made and serves its purpose perfectly! My new graphics card rocks!
