We live in northern Michigan and I bought these shoes for my three year old daughter (she will be four soon). They look adorable and will keep you warm when there is some snow on the ground. But they don't work for serious snow! A few days after she returned to nursery after our first big snow (about 6 inches) I had to quickly order another pair of boots. They came off just too easily when she was walking and playing in the snow at school. She can't pull them on tight enough to stay on her feet due to the Velcro construction. It's not bad for an adult to put them on for her and then tuck her winter pants over her boots, but a child cannot do it well enough on its own. She came home from school every day in wet socks and pants, and her boots were covered with snow. The teacher said that the boots kept falling off and filling up with snow. My husband and I were appalled. So I ordered a pair that sits higher on her legs and has a zipper so she can put them on and take them off herself. Now she has to wear them because the new ones aren't here yet and I feel like a terrible dad every day when she comes home wet and cold. They don't cost $70 at all. She hasn't had a baby yet and I feel like a terrible parent every day when she comes home wet and cold. They don't cost $70 at all.
