Soft metal very delicate

Looks the same as the picture. I have antique bronze but I really wanted gold but needed 2 and never found more than 1. So I'm not thrilled with the color but I'm hoping a little rubbing and polishing will give me the color I want. The metal of it is very soft and easily damaged. The screws are pan head screws and the lines in the middle got messed up after installation because they are such soft metal and obviously the pressure when screwing them was too much. I'm not keen on them at all, but I don't need to remove them, so hopefully they'll be ok.
