I received my first pair as disposables from a family member who didn't want them and at first thought they were. terribly feminine. But they were surprisingly comfortable and offered a little more protection than regular strappy sandals, but didn't have the stiffness of leather-mesh sandals. Last summer they almost went casual and wore them with brown/red/green shorts and shirts because they were brown and red. So I just bought an all black one to go with a wider range of color combinations - and while those locations were still pretty cold, they were already part of the regular rotation. They dry out very quickly if you find yourself in the rain or step in a puddle afterwards. While they can't match the active support that Teva ankle strap sandals offer, I'm concerned that rolling your ankle off the curb can be dangerous. Thing, they're way more functional than any other flip flop or "water/road socks" I've tried. The pair I just bought are a size 10 but I can tell they will loosen up a little - the first pair I got was a size 10.5 and they have a little more bottom/sole which is nice and you can always pull it up a little. But to be honest I could probably wear the 9.5 as well if it was all that came in another color I ended up buying. third pair.
