The instructions recommend to operate the toaster at full power three times to burn the heating components, thus the initial start will produce a strong scent of burnt plastic. It takes 30 seconds to 1 minute to get a crust on the bread (depending on the bread used). We put it to use in a commercial kitchen, and it handles its duties admirably; in just 40 seconds, our freshly baked bread gets a golden crust. Our homemade bread may be fried in almost an entire loaf's worth of oil because two slices are checked on at once in a single compartment. You don't have to frantically shake the toaster to get the crumbs out because there is a tray that can be removed and cleaned. Overall, I'm pleased with the purchase; now we'll see how long it holds up.
