I bought this to cheaply replace the hard drive in my old Thinkpad. The laptop in question is known to have issues with such upgrades, which is why I decided to use it as an external USB drive as I also bought an enclosure for it. I quickly formatted the drive and started uploading files to it. The transfer hung, and so did my entire computer, until I unplugged the drive. Now no computer recognizes it. There were four applications in just two days. You're taking risks, but you're better off with Transcend, a well-known brand.
