Review on 🎀 Enhanced Microphone Preamp & Channel Strip Processor - dbx 286s, Mono 4-way by Beth Pujol

Revainrating 5 out of 5

EXCELLENT for removing background noise for live broadcasts, YouTube videos and podcasts!

As other reviewers have pointed out, this is a reliable and professional microphone processor. I'm just getting ready to make YouTube videos. However, I work from home in a less than ideal acoustic environment. (I'm an amateur and I know absolutely NOTHING about audio engineering.) I'm also running Windows 10 with really crappy audio drivers: no matter how much I cranked up the mic input volume, my audio was way too quiet with USB mics. connected directly to my computer. (It doesn't help that I'm a relatively quiet-voiced female.) After some research, I decided to buy a microphone with an XLR connector and a USB audio adapter. This solved my input volume problem, but now all background noise has been boosted, including my air conditioning, room echo, and mic hiss. The layout of my room is not really soundproof and there is nothing soundproof in my house. No post-processing could fix it completely without distorting my voice. Enter the DBX 286 which I bought after looking at YouTube reviews. It took a lot of fiddling and testing of the settings, but I was SUPER SATISFIED with the test results. The DBX 286s offers plenty of gain and phantom power for my mic, but the standout feature is the gate expander. Background echo/mic hiss is significantly reduced and my raw audio isn't awful now, meaning it's good enough for live broadcasting. I'm picky and still do some Audacity editing on pre-recorded videos, but live webinars and live videos on Facebook or YouTube sound just fine, with little to no background noise of any kind (aside from a slight mic hiss only at max volume) . levels). This solved the BIGGEST problem for me: I bought a mic processor primarily to eliminate background noise (room echo/mic hiss). This is an OUTSTANDING mic processor and I am very happy with the results! :)
