These knee pads have an approx. 3.8 cm wide elastic strap with Velcro. When I wear them with shorts, the strap digs into my knees a bit, but that's nothing compared to the damage done when I'm not wearing them when kneeling on concrete or shingles. Wearing it with pants will likely solve this problem. I only use them a few times a year for projects around the house but after a full day on the roof the rubber pads don't wear out like I thought they would and still look almost new after a few projects. The pads are made of thick, heavy rubber rather than leather as the name would suggest or cheap foam as the price would suggest and are definitely comfortable. The other guys who rent them out like them a lot.
