Review on Enhanced Sony ICD-BX140 4GB Digital Voice Recorder for Advanced Recording Experience by Nick Moo

I bought it in December and used it for about 1.5 to 2 months and I'm not impressed. I should have tried to get it back sooner but I tried to give it a good shake. Bad choice because now it's too late to go back. Pros: 1) The sound quality is pretty good. Almost as good as any voice recorder I've used, so no complaints. 2 Available. I can put in two brand new batteries and even without using them they will be dead by the end of the week. If you actually use it, you won't live with it for a week. I've tried disposable and rechargeable both with the same result. If you own stock in a battery company, you might not mind, but battery life is terrible on this entry. 2) After only 2 months the screen seems to die. I never dropped it and never got it wet. The attached photos show where the bottom of the upper text disappears and the top of the lower text disappears. This makes me think the center of the screen is failing. Unacceptable for 2 months ago. 3) The buttons aren't the easiest to use without looking. The record button is large and easy to find. The stop button is a different story. It sits between the forward and back buttons with no distinct edge or texture/outline. I work outside and if I wear gloves when it's cold, I forget to press the stop button. It's cheap at the end of the day, but you obviously get what you pay for. I thought it was Sony so I thought it was ok. My last recorder (Olympus VN7100) finally started failing after a few years of use. I wanted to buy another Olympus recorder but it's three times the price. Maybe I should have paid $100 because apparently buying 3 of these would last a year at best (plus the cost of all those batteries). Very disappointed. The only reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 is because it has a decent sound. I would really like to return it immediately instead of trying to give it a chance to convince me.
