Review on HEiL Sound PROSET-3: Premium Closed Back Studio Headphones - Pro Set 3 by James Eledge

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Nice studio headphones.

Heil Sound Pro Set 3 Closed studio headphones from Heil Sound. These headphones are over-ear headphones with a closed design. The ear cups and headband feature dual vertical adjustment, allowing for greater vertical adjustment of the ear cups. The horizontal adjustment allows you to rotate 90 degrees forward and not rotate back for some reason. The headphones come with three detachable single-ended cables (1/8" thick) (one coiled and two straight) and a 1/4" phono adapter. Carrying bag (BAG-1) is not included but available as an accessory. The design is good. Total weight, including cables, is 8 ounces, with a 2-inch wide padded headband. The clamping force isn't bad, but I found it more comfortable after leaving it on top of a large box of tissues (top to bottom). boxing) for a few weeks to stretch the fit a bit. The seat adjustment is a bit loose. The 3.5mm stereo mini-jack cable is 6ft 2in long. I just want to be able to connect the cable to the right earphone as well, since my sound source is necessarily to my right and I have a long cable hanging in front of me. I slightly raised the cord with a twisted tie. The ear pads can sweat a bit over time. Velor covers would be better. Bigger over-ear headphones would be even better, as over-ear pads can pinch your ear creases and get a little painful. I found that I tucked the tips of my ears into the pads to reduce pinching. Three stars for design. The quality of the metal and plastic construction is very good. Unfortunately, the metal headband also contains a plastic strip that limits your ability to bend the headband directly over the headphones if it's too tight. The cable could have been a bit thicker (or flatter) to better resist breakage and carry more amplifier power, but for home use this is fine. Four stars for the build quality. The wearing comfort is good, not too tight and not too hard on the top of the head, but sweats a bit over time and pinches the upper ear folds. Three stars for comfort. The sound response curve favors the lower mids. These headphones are a bit weaker in the high frequencies than most other headphones which tend to scream at you. At lower listening levels, you need to boost both the high frequencies and the low frequencies. At higher volumes they sound great just need to boost the highs and lows a bit. Adding a heavy bass boost they start to rumble a bit, but still not bad if you like heavy bass in headphones. They should work fine with a powerful receiver. If I want big bass, I prefer the full body feel of listening to a large set of studio monitor speakers driven by a stereo receiver. When other people are in the house I have to settle for the bass I can find in headphones or a set of small desktop speakers. The testing equipment I used is the only testing equipment that really matters, and the testing equipment I was born with is both of my ears. Four stars for the sound. If we combine all the reviews, we get 14 out of 20 stars or 70% (C-) and a three-star Revain rating. Are they worth buying? At this price, yes. I've spent well over a hundred dollars on other comparable headphones. Please don't blame the messenger. I always say everything as it is, the bad alongside the good. These product reviews are just a hobby and I am not interested in selling or promoting any products.
