Review on Brainwavz Delta Silver Bass Earbuds: Premium Sound, Microphone & Remote - iPhone & Android Compatible by Ann Thompson

Kind of fragile? Normal variant.

I bought this as an alternative to JVC Marshmallows which are quickly declining in quality and durability. I was looking for some noise canceling in-ear headphones with remote/mic and good sound. I saw the Wirecutter review, looked at the other reviews and bought it. I've currently been using these headphones for about 8 months to commute to and from work on a crowded New York City subway and store them in a hard case with velcro closure to keep the coils from tangling (I wrap them very gently) . Cons: For now, it still makes good sound. But I noticed problems with these headphones after about 1 month of use: the remote control stopped responding. Usually it's one click to pause/play the music, two clicks to skip to the next song, and three clicks to go back to the previous song. I pressed as many times as I wanted and nothing happened. Eventually I opened up the casing of the remote/mic part itself and fiddled with the exposed wiring (i.e. routed the wiring left, right and on top of the other parts) until I found the layout that got the remote working again. Now 8 months later I have had other issues for at least 2 months. (1) The L-shaped headphone plug must have very fragile wiring because if I accidentally bend the part of the cable closest to the L-shaped plug, my music will skip to the next song/only play the first few seconds of each Song. and skip/pause/play songs/change my playlist (sort of?). (2) It may be due to the changing weather (getting colder), but the headphones cause an electric shock in my ears when I walk indoors and play music outside. It hurts a bit. Pros: Size: I have small ears and the smallest of the included ear tips fit my ear without straining my ear canal or causing pain after prolonged wear (several hours). However, it seems too small as it sometimes falls out of my ear when I'm eating or using my facial muscles more. But that doesn't bother me that much. The environment is what is already installed in the headphones. I use small for left and medium for right (I have weirdly big ears). Try the combinations that you find most comfortable. Sound: Very good sound quality. The Wirecutter review was spot on with this one. Durability: They lasted longer on both sides than the last few JVC Marshmallow headphones I've bought and used before this pair. JVC lasted 5 months using the same processing and storage methods. Noise-cancellation: There's not much noise-cancellation in my opinion. But I can easily ignore the rest of the conversational noise (almost a faint hiss) seeping through my headphones. Given that I used an earbud smaller than my ear, this isn't too surprising. With the right nozzle size, you will achieve better noise reduction. Other: I like that there is a wire slider (to turn the split left and right wires going to the ears into one wire). I have it adjusted so that my headphones don't get caught or snag in the buttons and zippers of my coat and the collars of my unbuttoned shirts. Brainwavz's customer service is also fantastic. They will work with you. All I had to do was speak to them the first time my remote stopped working, but this time it turned out to be my iPad to blame. I just had to turn my device off and on again. The second problem with the remote stop came when I was fiddling with it (see above).
