These well-tailored socks are great for hiking. I consider the fabric to be medium weight, no thinner or thicker than some of my winter socks. I'm size 12 and they fit perfectly. I would rate the tube length as average, but I fold the top down to fit the top of my boots (ie these socks are not sandal-like sock socks, nor do they go very far to the calf). The colors look great and are a mix of gray tones. There is a darker stripe at the top of the sock which I like. The only criticism is that the socks I received may be a little lighter than the picture, but they still look great.
