Review on High-Speed Data Transfer: MICRO CONNECTORS 500ft Solid Shielded (STP) CAT6 Bulk Ethernet Cable - Blue (TR4-560SHBL-500) by Carlos Block

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Offers excellent bandwidth but requires patience to install connectors

After researching the options available for my home network, this cable has met my needs and will do more in the future as fulfilled foreseeable future. While Cat 7 and 8 offer up to 4x throughput, device cost, power consumption, and length limitations far outweigh the benefits of slightly faster speeds. This cable's shielding provides additional protection against crosstalk when routed over Ethernet-side cables and coaxial cables. The difficulty with this cable is primarily due to the physical limitations of Ethernet connectors, which are not designed to work with larger conductors and the cable jacket. Due to the thicker cable, installing plugs requires patience. because the wires must be arranged in 2 rows to accommodate the thicker wire. After spending money on a couple of so-called Cat 6a compatible connectors, I settled on the Platinum Tools Ezex48 Shielded RJ45 External Ground Connector. My research shows that this is the only connector compatible with this cable. There are many options for bushings. For my setup I was able to use a shielded TRENDnet Cat6A RJ45 Keystone Jack. Due to the rigidity of the cable, it is important to avoid twisting during installation. This is solved by making a simple spool holder from scrap plywood. (See photo).

Pros
  • Shielded cables to prevent EMI and provide the best possible signal
Cons
  • Negative signal present
