To my surprise, the pillowcases are made in India. Pillowcases are well protected in a beautiful factory box, so they have excellent presentation and can be a good gift. The cases felt a little rough and smelled like fabric when the box was first opened. The smell wasn't pleasant. I was expecting a very silky smooth fabric because it has a lot of threads so I was a bit disappointed. However, I do not want to judge a product until it is used for its intended purpose. I put them in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and line dried them for a few hours, the pillowcases are much softer and the odors are gone. To show their true softness and quality, they must be washed before first use. They go great with my regular pillows and the fabric is quite smooth and thick and they feel durable. I didn't notice any shrinkage after washing so they were high quality cotton. I have no way of knowing whether or not they actually have a high thread count, but considering how smooth they are I'll just take the manufacturer's word. The only catch is they don't have zippers to keep the pillows inside. If they had zippers they would be the perfect pillowcases for my pillows.
