Panel 5 stars / Controller 1 star

I bought another panel that I'm very happy with, with a different brand and controller, but not waterproof . Use this plate for carrying/camping. In the meantime I was looking for something to replace an older, slow charger that's sitting on top of a car that doesn't drive that much anymore.... decided on this one. The panel works fine but found that the controller is not working properly. I first connected it to the battery and then to the solar panel according to all instructions, the controller did not limit the output voltage of the battery, I tried charging it to 15.615.7 volts. Super surprised. Expect it to adjust properly. After playing around with it for a while it finally settled to 15.2V and charged at 1 amp. Now I figured I'd keep a close eye on the battery and see if it went into float mode. NEVER happened...pulled it out. when he bumped the battery up to 15.0v and said that was itโ€ฆ. I didn't want to kill the battery which is honestly only 6 months old. I used another controller that I know works correctly with this new panel and works very well, raised the battery correctly and withstood normal floating voltage (not transient). correction setting). Simple but....just a bad problem/controller issue. I didn't want to deal with returning/exchanging anything assuming what was done in the email and asked the seller to provide a new controller. Unfortunately they didn't believe me and demanded full sun photos with pictures of the voltage on the gauges. I've been fumbling all day and didn't want to waste any more time. I've just decided to buy a new controller for $25...disappointed, the seller doesn't trust the buyer. I would like to return the old controller. In any case, if the controller was more expensive, I would just replace it entirely. When using this board, be sure to check the output voltage at the terminals of the control unit and batteries. bad day. Also, the controller doesn't have any visual indicators, so another bummer, you'll have to use your own gauges/tools...unless that controller is trying to do some fancy equalization charging, it seems like it's too much voltage to charge a 12V car / lead acid truck battery.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Really don't like it, everything is fine
