Review on ๐Ÿ“ป Retekess V111 Portable Digital Shortwave Radio with Stereo Voice, Battery Operation, Favorite Key, Earphone, and Digital Alarm Clock for Hiking and Walking by Linda Peoples

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Exceeded my expectations (which were not high)

I am very satisfied. It seems that this manufacturer has responded to several negative comments from previous buyers and has solved several issues. The instructions are supplied in a multilingual booklet (not a folded sheet of paper). The writing and drawings are small but not too bad for my weak eyesight. Yes, there are several instances of Chinglish in the guide, but they're way better than I've seen. As suggested by others, read the instructions first! The results I'm getting are better than expected. On MW/AM, my unit scans and tunes in 10-KC increments (do it kHz). It picks up some local AM stations (currently in the small town of Sebring, Florida) and some further afield. On the VHF band, the radio scans and tunes in 0.1MHz increments and odd numbers, as is common in the US (as opposed to 0.5 and even 0.1MHz increments that I've found in others seen test reports). When the antenna is extended, more than 20 readable stations are received and the first 20 are stored (the number of stations received exceeds memory capacity). I got the radio around 5pm EST and picked up a few shortwave stations. Given that the HF bands (yes, I'm a radio amateur) are in terrible shape, I'm surprised I found so many of them. I noticed that the radio tunes in 0.5kHz increments. IMHO the speaker reproduces a clear clear voice and music. My Martin-Logan speakers sound a lot better at home, but this radio is under $20. Contrary to other reports, I had no problems with the supplied headphones. You may have to separate them to get enough cord around your head. The fit is comfortable, the sound is sufficient. The thickness of the cable was much better than what I've seen on other headphones. I will note that this radio can be bought cheaper on eBay. In light of a few reported issues, I've decided to buy through Revain just in case I run into any issues. I believe that when you buy through Revain you are getting a newer, more modern product. You never know if you will get updated instructions and firmware I see on this radio. For less than 20โ‚ฌ I am very satisfied.
