Wood Trick Mechanical Windmill Constructor Review

I snapped off the dowel on page 11 and replaced it with a piece of 9/64 hard wire which worked great. I also snapped off the shaft of the toothpick on page 26 and replaced it with a 1/16 trimming nail. Both work great! Good product. Take your time and sand and wax in all the appropriate places. I highly recommend WoodTrick. I will buy more! My grandson of a Purdue engineer was very impressed and amazed.

I bought this for my husband who is an engineer and although he is an electrical engineer and not a mechanical engineer he really enjoyed putting it together. A mechanical engineer would probably have a heart attack overjoyed at how well made this thing is. Everything went smoothly, it's a beautiful object and it really works. Please note that the instructions may indicate different sizes of elastics, but it has turned out that they are not needed in this set.

I have made 4 other models from another brand, this is by far the worst. The wooden pegs are too long and force everyone to cut. Like the pieces were cut wrong. The play is very small for the gear arrangement inside the model. The dowel pieces will not stay inside and will pull apart the walls of the model unless you trim them to size. But the instructions say nothing about reducing the size of the dowels. Also, no toothpicks are needed to hold the pieces together. By far the worst kit I've…

This was a great puzzle apart from a design flaw related to the clutch which prevents the blades from turning after the rubber band has been wound up. After a few weeks of thought, I came up with a way to use the old nail as a filling while partially disassembling the device to make the necessary repairs. (Otherwise it would have required quite a bit of disassembly to fix the problem. I should have tested the clutch more thoroughly and adjusted it to my liking before proceeding, so I didn't…

Sorry I can't agree with the reviews. I assembled 4 models of Wood Trick with no problems. However, this windmill was nothing but trouble. The toothpicks are too short to hold the gears in place (I even tried using 1/8" longer but even they didn't hold the gears in place. Then the internals didn't fit. I like this model/PUZZLE! I found the INTERNATIONAL instructions a bit UNCLEAR! But if you give PICTURE based instructions without WRITTEN INSTRUCTIONS, you better look VERY CAREFULLY! I suggest you look ahead to see how the other assembled pieces fit together. I was really hoping it would be fun, but it really isn't. Parts are a bit thicker than some other brands, which is normal. But these details are difficult to take out of the picture. Instructions are missing or incorrect for some mechanisms. Putting them all together is a real pain when trying to align them on three levels. All plywood is basically the thickest that other companies use for just some of their parts, so it's very strong. Nothing wobbles when the finished wind turbine is up and running.
