It just arrived today, but I thought I'd at least share my first impressions. So far most of the other reviews here are correct. This thing does what it says on the tin: it plugs in and heats up. However, there are some nuances related to the heat generated that are worth remembering. There's no thermostat, it just pumps heat more or less evenly across its entire surface, which I think is why so many reviews say it's either too hot or not hot enough. At any given point on the mat, heat will increase until it reaches an equilibrium point where heat can escape at the same rate as it is generated. How strong this is depends on what's under the mat and what's on top at any given time. At maximum power, on my wooden desk in my office 70F, the parts of the mat that are directly exposed to the air are about 114F. . This makes the surface slightly warmer than a hot bath. The air just above the table is pleasant and I can actually feel a bit of heat just below the table where it heats the wood top itself. On the other hand, under my keyboard, where there is no air contact, the temperature is currently stable at 180F. This heat is absorbed by the keyboard and the pad continues to emanate until the wooden table or keyboard gets rid of it. That's fine with me - I have a relatively solid mechanical keyboard that can probably handle abuse, but it's definitely something to keep in mind. A plastic keyboard that can't dissipate heat from above will get much hotter underneath the keyboard because less heat can escape.
