I usually place my device across the mat (parallel to the wall to save space). I don't see the tiny green dot of light come on when this happens and when my phone is charging from 0% it takes a while for the green light to register. Because of this, several times my phone wouldn't charge after a day on the pillow. I recommend spending a few bucks more and getting a charger that gives you a better view (the light) when the device is properly placed on the pillow (and when it's fully charged). I bought another charger that changes (green, blue circle around panel) depending on when it's plugged in and when it's done charging. A few bucks more expensive, but at least it doesn't leave me with a dead phone. Some lights even go out after a while if you want.
