They're not meant for heavy storage, but we don't need them. You need to be pretty and keep things out of sight yet accessible. We needed that and got it. I don't know how long the lid will last but we only needed it to get the house ready for sale so our face masks, hand sanitizer and school supplies were available to take away as the wall shelf we used was removed to avoid clutter . Any other use is a bonus. The house has been sold but is still standing here until closing and is still using the crate. Still happy.
