Henna Chocolate Rich Brown

High Level Takeaway: I would highly recommend this product to anyone who wants a deep chocolate brown rich glossy color without the use of a chemical filled plastic bottle. It's better than Lush Henna, no competition. Time and patience are virtues when it comes to henna. Yes, the process takes 4 hours, but you dye your hair with plants! Mother Nature takes time :) My Process: I boil water to make a concentrated black tea using 8-10 12oz black tea bags. Water, insist 10 min. While the tea is still hot, I strain the tea bags and slowly add the henna powder in a rubber bowl with a silicone spatula. I don't recommend adding eggs, yogurt, or essential oils because they will ruin the "mud" consistency of the henna. I part my hair with rubber bands and, wearing rubber gloves, apply the "mud" from front to back, roots to tips, making sure my entire head is soaked. I have thick hair below my shoulders and usually need a whole bag if not 1/4 bag of henna to cover it all. I cover my head in henna with an old long sleeve shirt and meticulously do the housework for the 4 hours required for this process. Then I rinse in the tub - it's very dirty and if you don't take care of it the tub will get swampy. I finish by applying a biotin hair mask to my hair for 20 minutes and rinsing until the water runs clear. Do not wash your hair for at least 48 hours while the henna is working. Prewashing can result in color not being fully saturated and washing out prematurely. I repeat this coloring process every 7-8 weeks once my dark blonde roots and gray tones show through. General Disadvantages of Using Henna for Those New to the Henna Process: If you are considering chemical hair coloring or want a quick color change, henna is not for you. Brown henna = applying indigo + henna to hair with blue, yellow and orange undertones and any chemical color will most likely not work or give unpredictable results if you apply it to henna dyed hair. The more henna applied, the more layers of coating there are on the hair cuticle, making it harder for bleach and dye to penetrate. Enjoy!
