Review on Sauder Select 2 Shelf Bookcase 35 276 by Kelly Slevira

Just finished assembling three Sauder 2 shelf cabinets and two 5 shelf cabinets. Another two shelf case is on the way so you know I'm a fan. But there are a few important things you must do to get a finished product that you are happy with. I have posted the same review on 2 shelf and 5 shelf products so sorry if this is your second time seeing this. My cases are made from oiled walnut, so if your cases are a different color you will need to change my tips accordingly. IMHO you are unlikely to receive a device in 100% perfect condition, but if you are lucky enough to receive the device in perfect condition, you will likely scratch it slightly when assembling it. In one of my tall boxes, a 1 inch long notch was pulled out of the front edge of the center shelf during shipping and was impossible to hide. The cherry marker worked great on my oiled walnut crates. I would order touch up markers if ordering a bookshelf. I have used these markers on other pieces of furniture in my house and they are amazing. If your color is non-oiled walnut, use a shade lighter than you think, and if it's too light, you can correct it with a darker highlighter.2. Many of the edges of these shelves are made from two pieces of laminate that are joined at 90 degrees and then trimmed at the factory. They look ok but not perfect. They destroy the illusion that they are solid wood cabinets. Run the marker the full length of the edge and they'll make those edges disappear. This is especially important for the top of all two-shelf bookcases.3. I've found there's only one way to really ruin your shelves. This possibility arises when you screw the top bar to the top shelf. If you overtighten these screws, you're done. The screw will push up and break the laminate on the top shelf, and there's little you can do to hide it. These screws are attached to a decorative part, not a structural part, so tighten them until the molding is no longer loose.4. Use your own judgment but the plastic nail they supply with the 5 shelf unit is for the birds. I used my fingers and judgment on where to place the nails and had no trouble with it.5. The instructions state that the 5-shelf bookcase must be assembled face down. I expressly disagree. I assembled my two large bookcases face up, and when it came time to nail the back, I very carefully turned the bookcase over and placed it on top of the foam packing pieces. That's all. These bookshelves represent excellent value for money and if you follow my advice you will be very happy with the results. Rice is included.
