Review on Channel Surveillance Network Recorder(Ikvision HiLook NVR 216MH C by Joey Gilbert

Great Hikvision OEM NVR, lots of features, low price!

This NVR offers many features at a great price. It works with all 13 of my cameras with no issues. The unit's fan is a bit noisy, but I put it in a closet where there are no people. I have seen several alternative fans that can be installed, they are quieter. Installing a hard drive is very easy and there is plenty of space inside the case. I went with a 4TB drive and recorded 24/7 for two weeks. I've listed all the cons I can think of, but don't let that put you off this NVR. I couldn't find a better NVR at this price. Pros: - Easy setup - Incredible features - Capable of recording 16 8MP cameras simultaneously! I have seven 8MP cameras and five 5MP Wi-Fi cameras, all recording with no issues. Record 24/7 and motion events. The Guarding Vision mobile app allows me to view live streams and recorded streams. If you look at web browsers by usage, you will see that Internet Explorer is used by around 0% of users. Why is Chrome not supported worldwide!?!? - PoE ports are protected by a firewall and cannot be changed. This means you cannot access the camera webpage to configure all camera settings. It is possible to route traffic and it only partially works, making it unusable. Anpviz's solution was to place the camera outside of the NVR or use a separate PoE switch. I ended up getting a separate PoE switch, but that was extra money I didn't want to spend. - Broken motion detection for ONVIF cameras. I've tried using WiFi cameras from different manufacturers that support ONVIF. All of them record on the DVR and none of them work properly with motion detection. Instead of lots of small boxes to choose range of motion, you get 4 huge boxes. When motion detection reports motion, false alarms are reported every second throughout the day. At the end disable motion detection for your ONVIF cameras. I expected NVRs to have their own motion detection algorithms like Blue Iris. I tried working with the motion detection support but they either didn't understand the issue or couldn't help me. In the end I gave up trying.

Cons
  • Slightly wrinkled
