God, these things are bright! I bought them a year ago to be ready to tie my Christmas tree when I get it this year. The horrible chemical plastic smell almost knocked me out when I opened the package. And it doesn't scatter. Really terrible. But I insisted and wrapped them carefully around the base of my tree. It became obvious that I couldn't live with these things. After inhaling the smoke as an anesthetic, you could perform appendectomy yourself with 40,000,000,000 lumens per string. In addition, the light is reflected by the transparent "wire" on which they are strung, so the "wire" does not disappear into the wood, but becomes the main sparkling detail. I've replaced them with warm white ultralights on green coated wire and I'm no longer tempted to perform random surgeries in my own home. The atmosphere is restored, the holidays can be resumed. I suppose you could use them on a porch or anywhere you really want the area lit for extra brightness if you don't mind the rancid smell.
