Like the others, the factory will flake over time. I was fine at first, but as I was lifting the console back and forth it started shaking too much for me. It looked bad too. I went ahead and removed it. I took a large flat head and carefully went around the edges. Be careful not to damage the edges of the console. I broke off some clips from the old one. Most of them have broken clips. I just pushed the rest of the parts aside. I thought I could do without it. It became an eyesore. Something was clearly missing. I ordered a custom install and got it within a week and 10 seconds later I was back in business. It's more hard than soft. No big deal to me. For me it's more of an aesthetic element. You have to press fairly hard, starting at one end and working around. Snaps in loud but sure. Thanks for the custom install!
