Review on Crystal Pilot Flight Pad 5: 3-in-1 Tablet Kneeboard including Aluminum Clipboard, VFR Placard, and Mini iPad 5 Compatibility by Michael Schwegman

A collection of items, not an integrated product

I am a CFI who regularly flies four different aircraft. Was looking for a compact iPad holder and writing board with small storage pockets. This will replace the two knee pads I currently fly with; one for my iPad and one for writing/checklists/storage. Pros - Nicely packaged and well made (durable) and should last for many years. Good length and width. Nice leg loop design. Poorly. It looks like a design inspired by a military knee pad; There are a few patches with velcro and nylon straps that have no apparent purpose. The clipboard does not integrate with the iPad knee pad and requires minor modifications to keep it from slipping out. "Stack" turned out to be thicker than we would like. You can set the iPad to "flip" from the writing surface, but the tab on the material holding the iPad feels flimsy. My overall impression is that this is a good concept that wasn't fully developed and perfected before launch. .

Pros
  • Side pockets, pen holders and smartphone pocket
Cons
  • No instructions
