I bought this as a gift for my fiancé who likes to keep his hands busy. He's taken it apart and put it back together several times, but he still enjoys it. I might need a more complex version later. But when I tried it, I needed a lot of help. So how hard it is probably depends on how many similar puzzles you've already solved. It gets easier if you break it down first to understand how it works. If you're giving it as a gift and want to challenge that person, my fiancé recommends giving it as a gift unassembled so he has to figure out how the pieces fit together from scratch. Some kids (10 years old) tried it but it was very difficult for them and they gave up quickly so I wouldn't recommend it for younger kids.
