So straight out of the box I wanted to try a 1 pound serving of dried beans. The vacuum pump was switched off a few seconds before sealing. I went through troubleshooting, replaced the pads, wet the rim of the pouch, used up the entire set of pouches to no avail, and tried to get it once so the air doesn't re-enter before the sealing process is complete. Overall just as good as the zip bags they previously came in. I have no idea if this is a defective unit or a design flaw, but I'll be returning it either way and choosing the more expensive option.
