We bought this to curb our small Australian Cattle Dog's tendency to "bite". He is very fond of biting your arms and hands, gradually increasing in strength until it hurts (but does not pierce the skin). I was hesitant to get one of these thinking it might be inhuman, but then I saw that it also has vibration and sound modes. The only warning I saw was something about irritation or allergies or something, but I never thought that was possible. Again, this could not be called a warning, but was simply mentioned in passing and casually in the instructions without much emphasis or boldface. We used it exactly as intended. I've only worn it for a few hours to see how it's doing and haven't noticed anything to worry about. I used electric shocks on myself before using them on my dog at level 5 which felt like a tickle with no pain or discomfort. Even then I only shocked him 3 times because I stuck to the vibrate function as it seemed to get his attention pretty well. We had young kids last weekend so we let him part of the day on Friday and most of the day on Saturday just to be safe and have a line of defense in case he gets aggressive towards them but we were still in Range. recommended guidelines. Of course they ran and played with him a lot which could cause him to get wet and rub underneath him but I made sure it wasn't too tight. I knew it wasn't because I noticed that he would switch positions from one side of his neck to the other side or center under his chin from time to time. I guess at some point he had to stay in one place for a while for that to happen. When I took it off last time, I noticed that hair was falling out from under the main gear with teeth. His lips trembled and he licked me so hard. I noticed a bald spot just below this spot. As I petted him and felt the area, I noticed something "hard" to the right of that area, higher up his neck where the device wasn't, but I couldn't see it was the hair. . I cried so much a few times after I took it off and he ended up shaking and kind of thanking me (which is weird, he acted totally normal and happy, playing with the kids just before they left and no signs of discomfort shown). . After that he started acting very strange, going into his kennel and barking/growling aggressively when we tried to approach which he never does. So we took him to the vet and there was a HUGE scab that appeared to be infected due to some kind of allergic reaction. Also, where there was an appliance/teeth there was no scab, there was just a red, irritated bald spot. Why use material that can cause this? I just noticed a review of something similar involving someone else's dog when I came to write this; If I had seen it before buying it I would never have risked it. This product can literally KILL your dog. If the wound becomes infected and spreads systemically, it can cause great damage, if not death. Now we're stuck with a $250 vet bill for the first visit and no doubt another if we have to come back in ten days to check it out. Who covers it? Salesperson? Manufacturer? Revenge? I doubt. I doubt any of them will even admit their guilt. I'm sure they will do their best to blame us in any way they can, saying it's user error or something. I was careful. I used it in small portions to see if he was allergic to it. I have followed the instructions and recommendations in the packaging. I made sure it wasn't too tight. I mostly just used the vibrate feature and the few times I've used it, I've never gone above 5 out of 100 for the shock level (I didn't like how she reacted to it). How can something so serious happen in just a few days? A hypoallergenic material should be available that would not be able to produce such a severe reaction in any number of dogs, no matter how "rare" it might be with the materials currently in use (I'm sure that they would say that). 'It's a rarity'). This is absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. It's not even worth the 0.00001% risk of this happening to your pup (and I'm sure it's a lot more common). I'm so worried about him. I just want him to be okay and healthy and hopefully let all of his hair grow back. my poor boy It breaks my heart to see him like this. I cried so much last night I can't help but feel like it's still my fault. I should never have bought any of these things. People kept recommending it to me and when I saw the vibration feature I decided to give it a try. Major Bobo is a good boy, I'm sure he will break his bad habits with patience and positive reinforcement. Don't expose your precious pup to this junk, it's not worth it. General. I will never use any of them again. If you must purchase one, make sure to only use materials that are certified safe for ALL dogs. Update: I wanted to be honest and add this edit. This is due to the silicone sleeves that are/were in this kit. Now I know because after a long time I tried to use the collar again. But at this point I did some research and heard from dogs that had severe allergic reactions to silicon. This time there was no reaction without silicone, the collar works well and really helps with training and changing bad behavior (at least on my dog). At first I used silicone sleeves because I thought they would be softer/better on my dog's neck and potentially offer better contact. I just don't understand why a company would include something that is a known dog allergen, it's really not uncommon. In any case, the collar is fine without those silicone pads, it does its job, but I'll leave it one star anyway because I find it incredibly irresponsible to include something like this (no warning, no less) and also because of that, like all of these Experience traumatized my dog (and me, to be honest). They shaved him at the vet and the reaction/infection was very bad (as you can see) and he was clearly in a lot of pain. It really changed his personality for a while, it took a lot of work to get him back in the car and more importantly to trust us again. Finally, please do not use silicone caps if they are still present. The collar can be a valuable tool though, although I try not to shock it and make the most of the vibration.
