Fast, Looks Cool: Computer Accessories & Peripherals

I put in a 4TB 7200rpm hard drive and a USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 2 cable from Revain Basics used instead of an included USB-CA cable. My PC has a USB Type C 3rd Gen 1 port and I really wanted to use it. The speed test I ran seems to show that the case is actually accessing the hard drive at full speed. It's slow compared to SSDs, but the capacity-to-cost ratio still gives HDDs a distinct advantage when it comes to large amounts of storage. The case feels cheap, which is not surprising given that it's clearly made out of clear plastic. You must be careful not to carry it with you to avoid scratching it. Also, there are no rubber feet on the case, which is disappointing but easy to fix. The suitcase without legs slides easily on the table. This seems to be a common feature of these inexpensive cases. The enclosure has a power management feature (part of the standard used for USB hard drives) that stops the drive after a short time. Because of this, Windows seems to freeze when you open a folder to view the drive or its contents while it is booting up and booting up. There's no way to turn it off without having a program constantly running in the background sending synchronized read/write commands to the disk. I'm not a fan, but this really can save someone from power outages. Overall I'm happy with my purchase and think the power/activity LED really makes this case stand out.

Pros
  • Great selection
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
