Review on πŸ”₯ I Am Legend Pro by Nicholas Kanat

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A classic with a depressing ending

Author Richard Matheson is a legend in his own right. This teasing tale of the last living human on earth and his efforts to eradicate the vampire plague peters out about halfway through this superbly written novel. The fifth chapter is sensational, but after that the novel bogs down in our protagonist's deconstruction of venerable vampire myths. The cross is not the way to kill a vampire. The hero Robert Neville not only lost his wife but also his daughter due to an apocalyptic disease that is destroying humanity and the survivors are vampires besieging his home. Neville has turned his home into a real fortress to keep the toothy invaders at bay. One of his closest friends - Ben Cortland - continues to persuade him to come for the legion of vampires to finish him off. Desperate but determined, our lone protagonist struggles to find a way to kill these predators. At the same time, it slowly dissolves. At one point, Neville tried to save the last dog alive, but he can't help it. Later he pursues the girl but there is something in her that I will be to him. Finally, as Hemingway did in his old novel To Have and Have Not, Robert Neville reminds us that man alone cannot do this. When a hero dies in a work of literature, the reader is left with a bitter aftertaste. Nonetheless, Matheson's prose is first rate. His descriptions and dialogue are unforgettable.
