Currently being restored 78 CJ-7 This is the style clip I removed to restore the dashboard. Unfortunately I couldn't find it when I reassembled it and couldn't remember the orientation of the bracket. After some research I believe there are two styles of brackets. This is a simple pole with eyelets on the ends. As mentioned, I couldn't remember the alignment, but I knew it was what I took. The whole thing is not designed for the passage of the cylinder, but rather serves as a "stopper" for the cylinder lock. If you notice there are whole gaps in the top left and right corners of the dash (behind the closed glove box door). This is for the bumpers so the door doesn't hit the dash and leave no marks. These bumpers also provide a "rebound" effect when the latch is released. You will need to bend the lip up or down to get the top of the cylinder to hook properly. Bottom line, this is ONE of the right latches for the CJ7, and sorry for the long post. Some of the other comments are far from the truth... Disclaimer, I haven't installed a real box yet, but you get the idea.
